Balneology is one of the oldest sciences, as it is studying the methods of treatment with natural remedies that have been known to mankind for centuries. These natural medicinal agents can be used to prevent, treat, or rehabilitate different disease states.
Balneotherapy in the sanatorium ‘CRYSHTALEVE DZHERELO’- first of all, the usage of the well-known mineral water “Luzhanska-3” directly from the water well for mineral baths, as well as:
- pearl baths
- bischofite baths
- whirlpool baths
- Nauheim bath
- baths with phytoconcentrate
- Underwater massage treatment
- Charcot’s douche
- circular douche
- rising douche
- hydro-laser shower
Mineral baths with water “Luzhanskaya – 3”
Mechanism of the effect:
- the water effects the numerous nerve endings located in the skin;
- water pressure affects circulation, breathing, nervous and lymphatic systems;
- the formation of the so-called “salt mantle” – deposits of minerals that continue being absorbed through the skin after the procedure.
Mineral baths have a complex effect on skin, joints, systems of the body and immunity.
Hot baths improve blood circulation in the skin, blood vessels and areas of chronic inflammatory processes; accelerate the elimination of toxins from the body. Cold ones have an additional tonic effect, while bath with a neutral temperature close to body’s temperature have a relaxing effect.
Use patterns
It is undesirable to take baths on an empty stomach or immediately after a meal, remedial gymnastic, physical therapy (preferably to have a break between procedures – at least an hour), with disturbance of the general sense of well-being (weakness, headache). After a bath it is recommended to rest 20-30 minutes
Indications:
- in the complex treatment of gastrointestinal tract diseases, intoxications, respiratory diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc.
- Diseases of the musculoskeletal system ;
- initial forms of atherosclerosis, hypotension, neurocirculatory asthenia;
- consequences of injuries of the central and peripheral nervous systems;
- psycho-emotional disorders.
Contraindications:
common in spa treatment.
Pearl baths – this is one of the procedures of balneotherapy. A grate is placed to the bottom of the bath; air is blown through it, pumped by a compressor. Thin metal tubes with holes make many large air bubbles in the water. They look like pearls, shimmer, that is why this procedure has gained such a poetic name. Water jets, mixing with a bubble air, massage body in the water. The supine position is almost ideal for complete muscle relaxation and greater efficiency of the procedure.
Regular use of pearl baths stimulates blood circulation, normalizes blood pressure, helps relieve backache and rheumatic symptoms, has a beneficial effect on the nervous system, and relieves muscle tension. In addition, the procedure helps in fight against insomnia and relieves stress. Dissatisfaction with the condition of the skin and your appearance in general, overweight, cellulite – these are some more reasons for using pearl baths.
The water temperature in the Pearl baths is 35-36 C. The procedure lasts 10-15 minutes. The course of treatment should consist of 12-15 procedures; they are carried out daily or every other day. Aromatic oils or sea salt can be added to the bath.
Pearl baths are prescribed by a doctor and are carried out under his supervision.

This is a hydrotherapy, in which a dissolved concentrate of vulnerary plants influences human body along with natural mineral water.
When a phytoextract dissolves in water a pleasant aroma appears in a bathroom that positively affects patient through the olfactory sense, causes an emotional uplift, and increases the general body reactivity. Also, depending on the type phytoconcentrates have an antiseptic, locally irritating, antiphlogistic and analgesic effect; improve blood circulation, the functioning of the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Indications:
- cardiovascular disease
- nervous disorder
- intestine issues
- Diseases of the musculoskeletal system
- skin disease
Contraindications:

Underwater massage treatment
Underwater handheld shower massage treatment- is done in jacuzzi tub a stream of water under pressure of 1-4 atmospheres is directed onto different parts of the body. During the procedure, the level of sensitivity of individual parts of the body to mechanical influences is taken into account.
An underwater hand shower massage is carried out in a hot tub – a stream of water under pressure of 1-4 atmospheres is sent to different parts of the patient’s body under water. During the procedure, the level of sensitivity of individual parts of the body to mechanical influences is taken into account. A limbs are massaged with a high-pressure jet, 1-2 atmospheres are optimal for body massage. The effect on the heartheart, genitals, and mammary glands is completely excluded.
The effects of underwater massage treatment
Powerful water jets increase tissues and muscles tone, activate blood circulation and metabolism, which immediately leads to weight loss. Therefore, doctors consider underwater massage treatment to be a good way of shaping a figure (fast, comfortable, physiological) by reducing body fat and increasing muscle tone, as well as an excellent way of reducing cellulite. Hydromassage enhances skin structure and its color, oxygenates cells, and excretes.Underwater massage treatment accelerates recovery processes, strengthens the walls of blood vessels, restoring their elasticity, accelerates recreation of motor functions, and at the same time this treatmant has all qualities of a hydromassage bath: relieves stress, tones.
